District fastpitch titles for Enumclaw, White River; state tournaments open Friday

Both the Enumclaw and White River fastpitch teams captured district championships Monday, giving them No. 1 seeds into this weekend's state tournaments.

Enumclaw topped the Class 3A district field while White River battled to the top in the 2A ranks. Each won three games Monday at the Sprinker complex in Spanaway.

Enumclaw started with a 10-4 victory over Timberline that assured the squad of a state berth. In following games that determined seeding to state, EHS edged Prairie 5-4 and, for the district championship, swamped Peninsula 14-0.

White River opened with a 10-0 whitewashing of Olympic in a winner-to-state/loser-out contest. That was followed by a 3-0 victory over Port Angeles and a 4-0 win over Fife in the finale.

Kayla Smith pitched all three shutouts for White River and Brooklyn Isaacs smacked a grand slam in the title game, accounting for all the runs.

• White River opens at noon Friday, again taking on Olympic High. The loser will then play at 2 p.m., the winner at 4 p.m. The tournament is at Carlon Park in Selah.

• Enumclaw opens at noon Friday against Interlake. The loser will play at 2 p.m., the winner at 4 p.m. The tournament is at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.
