He’s a Cruiser wins Friday feature | Emerald Downs
He’s a Cruiser, nicely rated by jockey Leonel Camacho-Flores held off Leadership for a one-length victory Friday in the $11,025 Ashbaugh Beal Purse for 3-year-olds and up at Emerald Downs.
He’s a Cruiser ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.31 on a fast track and paid $3.20 and $2.10. Vince Gibson is the trainer for co-owners Maureen Hallett and Pam Gibson.
A 4-year-old Washington-bred gelding, He’s a Cruiser has a 3-4-5 record in 17 starts with earnings of $38.891 including $6,064 for Friday’s win.
With the field reduced to three runners*Improviso, Faster Than Duke and Scat Daddybaby all scratched*He’s a Cruiser held a pace advantage over his two foes, and led through fractions of :24.63, :48.69 and 1:12.89. He straightened into the stretch with a two-length lead, and turned back a strong challenge by Leadership for the victory.
Leadership, ridden by Jennifer Whitaker, made two bids at He’s a Cruiser but was rebuffed and settled for second place. Leadership paid $2.20 for place; there was no show wagering. Whiskeyonthehouse finished third.
