Emerald Downs bettor hits Del Mar pick six

One of the five winning tickets in Saturday’s giant Pick Six at Del Mar was purchased at Emerald Downs.

The winning ticket*worth $407,550*was made on a $432 wager that included a single on 10-to-1 long shot You Know I Know in race five, which was the first leg of Saturday’s Pick Six.

The winning player, who requested not to be identified, is on vacation from New York and said it was “by far his biggest win in horse racing.”

The $407,550 payout broke the Emerald Downs simulcast payoff record of $366,385 set by Ruthie Gibson*also on a Del Mar Pick Six*on September 3, 2000.

After a two-day carryover of $619,482 created massive interest, an additional $2,624,378 was wagered on Saturday.

The winners of Saturday’s pick six races were You Know I Know ($23), English Crossing ($18.20), Sunday Rules ($12.40), Lady of Fifty (Grade 1 Clement L. Hirsch, $23.20), Chibita ($19), and Ethnic Dance ($5.80).

Ethnic Dance was the only winning favorite in the sequence. Incidentally, Lady of Fifty is co-owned by George Todaro of Seattle, an original investor in Emerald Downs.

The winning Emerald Downs player said his ticket included a “single” in Race 5, two horses in Race 6, three horses in Races 7 and Race 8, four horses in Race 9, and three horses in Race 10 (1 x 2 x 3 x 3 x 4 x 3 = $216 x 2 = $432 ticket).

The other winning tickets were purchased at Betfair Hollywood Park, Del Mar, Gulfstream Park, and through a simulcasting hub in Ontario, Canada.Ee
