Enumclaw High grad Kenicia McClellan Female Athlete of the Year at Green River Community College

Former Enumclaw Hornet Kenicia McClellan capped a fine two-year fastpitch career at Green River Community College by being named the school’s Female Athlete of the Year.

The numbers she posted while hitting cleanup for the Gators speak for themselves. Her career totals include a .424 batting average with 15 doubles, four triples and six home runs. Playing first base, she also served as a backup pitcher and won five games for GRCC. She struck out just four times during the recently-concluded season.

McClellan’s performance didn’t go unnoticed, as she was a two-time selection to the All-West softball team and represented the Gators in the sophomore all-star game. She also performed in the classroom and was an GRCC honor roll member.

Her collegiate success followed a disappointing senior season at Enumclaw High. In the opening game, McClellan suffered a knee injury that kept her sidelined the entire campaign.

She bounced back and arrived at Green River healthy and ready to play.

“The thing that separated her from others was her ability to handle adversity with a positive attitude,” GRCC Athletic Director Bob Kickner wrote in an email. “Our team struggled at times and yet she was the rock that held things together and kept us at least competitive.”
