Panthers riding a two-win wave

The Bonney Lake High girls are riding a two-game win streak on the basketball court and is in good position to make some waves in the South Puget Sound League 3A standings.

The Panther girls won two of three contests during the past week, the only loss being a three-point decision to Enumclaw.

Saturday at home, the Panthers pounded Clover Park 66-37 with a smothering defense and a good transition game.

“The girls did a good job,” coach Tom Ostrander said. “We had a tough game the night before, so it was good to see them come out strong.”

Rachel Wiegand led the scoring with 13 points and Marcel Pounds and Tiara Killmer each added 12.

Bonney Lake went on the road to play Peninsula Friday and came from behind to win 66-63.

The Panthers were down by four at the end of the first frame and trailed 36-30 at the half. But in the second half the girls found the basket and scored 36 points to Peninsula’s 27.

Rochelle Murray and Pounds each scored 16 and Rani Wiegand hit 10.

Bonney Lake hosted Enumclaw Dec. 9 and lost 53-50.

“We started slowly and we were down by 18 at one point and by 10 at half,” Ostrander said. “But they were awesome in the second half.”

Pounds was the high scorer for Bonney Lake with 15 and Murray hit for 12.

Bonney Lake was scheduled to travel to Auburn Mountainview Tuesday; scores were not available. The Panthers host Lakes at 7 p.m. Friday.
