It’s not easy being No. 1, but the Enumclaw High wrestling team made it look that way as it cruised past South Puget Sound League 3A opponent Auburn Mountainview 63-13 Thursday.

The Hornets were scheduled to battle White River Jan. 7, but that match was canceled at the last minute due to weather and has been rescheduled for Jan. 29. Enumclaw travels to Clover Park at 7 tonight, Wednesday, and then to Central Kitsap Saturday for the annual Matmen tournament.

The Hornets scored seven pins and were handed three forfeits against the Lions to make up 60 of their 63 points.

Enumclaw wrestlers earning pins were: Travis Reano, 103 pounds; Marcus Nichols, 112; Sam Bauer, 125; Jason Gray, 140; Connor Elder, 160; Tyler Rewoldt, 189, and Michael Staples, 215.

Cole Snider, 119, Jacob Jokela, 145, and heavyweight Brad McCutchen picked up the forfeits.

Joey VanWinkle scored a 9-4 decision at 171 pounds.

Hornet Wayne Horton lost a heartbreaking 12-10 overtime match at 130 pounds.
