Panthers leap back into competition

The Bonney Lake gymnastics team jumped back into action with two meets following several weeks off due to the winter weather and holiday vacation.

The Panthers hosted Puyallup and Federal Way Jan. 14. Puyallup won the meet and Bonney Lake finished third.

Scores were not available, but coach Kathleen Kirkpatrick said Kelli Hoffman had a strong bar routine and Sarah Skinner excelled in the vault event.

Due to a shoulder injury, Kelsi Potterf only competed on the beam. The coach hopes Potterf will be able to compete on the floor this week. Kirkpatrick said it may be two weeks before she can return to the vault and uneven bars.

Bonney Lake finished third Jan. 12 at Auburn High. Bonney Lake was competing against the Trojans, Thomas Jefferson and Rogers High.

The Panthers scored 124.35, the team’s highest total of the season.

Thomas Jefferson came in first with 148.2 points, Auburn was second with 140.9 and Rogers was fourth with 122.5.

Skinner won the beam with an 8.2 performance and was sixth in the all-around with a score of 27.3.

Potterf came in third all-around with a score of 29.95. She placed third on the bars with a score of 6.5, seventh on the vault scoring 8.05, fifth on the beam, 7.9, and sixth on the floor, 7.5.

Other highlights from the meet included Hoffman scoring an 8.2 on the vault, giving her fourth place, and placing seventh on the bars with a 5.95.

Tracy Hare hit a personal best of 7.5 on the vault.

Bonney Lake hosts Jefferson and Auburn Mountainview at 7 tonight, Wednesday.
