Comstock takes invitational crown
After another disappointing week of South Puget Sound League 3A dual meet wrestling action, falling to Peninsula High on Jan. 14, the Sumner High Spartans were well represented at the Willie C. Stewart Invitational Saturday at Foss High in Tacoma.
The Spartans finished 12th with 47 team points.
The purple and gold’s 215-pounder, Keiffer Comstock, took home “most outstanding wrestler” accolades as he pinned his first three opponents and also pinned his challenger in the championship bout to claim the 215-pound title at that weight classification.
Another SHS champion was Sumner’s senior 125-pounder, Tyler Wooding, who had his hand raised high in the championship round after decisioning Dan Horner of Foss 9-3.
The Sumner wrestling squad, still without a league win, will try to remedy that situation when it travels to Auburn Mountainview at 7 tonight, Wednesday. If the Spartans fail to crack the win column against the Lions, they will get another good shot at their initial league victory when they host Clover Park group at 7 p.m. Thursday in their next-to-the-last dual challenge of the regular season.
Sumner will head north for the Bellingham Invitational this weekend and then close out the regular campaign when it travels to Enumclaw Jan. 28 to face the defending Class 3A state champion Hornets.
