EHS’s Bailey takes second

Enumclaw High’s Chantelle Bailey was a runner-up at the Jackson High girls wrestling tournament Saturday in Mill Creek, Wash.
Bailey lost a 9-4 decision to Betty Granados of Fife, an opponent she beat the week before, in the finals.
Hornet teammates Jenny Paterson and Rose Johnson finished third. Paterson lost a 9-6 decision in the semifinals to last year’s state fourth-place finisher Michele Eckland of Montessano.
Coach Jerry Scheidt said Johnson had her best tournament of the year, winning three of her matches by pin.
Alicia McDougall finished fifth for EHS and Breana Flaquinti was sixth.
Two of the Hornets also got in matches against White River Thursday with Paterson and then Kassandra Renfrow both wrestling Mikaela Kilcup. After a tight couple rounds, Paterson pinned Kilcup. Kilcup scored the second-round pin on Renfrow.
The girls will participate in the subdistrict tournament Saturday at Auburn Mountainview, where the top four will advance to the regional competition Feb. 13 and 14 at Emerald Ridge in Puyallup.
“We’re hoping to get some girls through this year,” Scheidt said. “We’re healthy, hopefully we can move some kids on.”
