Grant is solo winner against EHS
The Sumner High wrestling squad wrapped up a very forgettable regular South Puget Sound League 3A season Jan. 28, losing at Enumclaw to finish the league dual match campaign with an 0-8 mark.
There was a ray of hope for the Spartans though, as 171-pound senior Spartan standout Colby Grant managed to outwrestle his Enumclaw challenger for a three-point decision.
Grant is hoping for one of the top seeds at 171 pounds at this weekend’s subdistrict tournament, set for Friday and Saturday at Auburn Mountainview High School. Matches go from lightest to heaviest beginning at 4 p.m. Friday and restarting Saturday morning.
Sumner figures to take a dozen wrestlers to subdistricts, with stalwart senior 125-pounder Tyler Wooding looking for a No. 2 seed in his stacked weight class and 215-pound senior Keiffer Comstock looking forward to at least a third- or fourth-place seed.
“If our 10 or so guys can get through this tough SPSL 3A competition at the subs, they have the potential to perform well the remainder of the way,” Spartan mat mentor Jeremy Horsley said.
