Panthers close out season with loss to Sumner

The Bonney Lake High boys failed to put a mark in the South Puget Sound League 3A basketball victory column. The Panthers lost a hard-fought battle to their district rivals, as the Sumner Spartans pulled out a 58-50 win Feb. 13 in Sumner.

It was the Panthers’ 16th loss in league play and Bonney Lake finished the regular season 1-19.

Bonney Lake started off the scoring with a 3-point basket, then Sumner answered. The Panthers took control early with an 11-7 lead in the first period, but Sumner regain the lead at halftime, 26-24.

Bonney Lake, led by Lawrence Williams and Kyle Bobbitt, regain the lead, 40-36, entering the final period.

Sumner took advantage of several Panther miscues and a smaller lineup in the final period as they outscored Bonney Lake, 22-10.

Three Spartans scored in double figures. Will Bulzomi led the way with 15 points, Lui Koria had 13 and Casey Lafkas added 11.

For Bonney Lake, Williams finished with 14 and Bobbit hit 12.

It was the final game for a pair of Bonney Lake seniors, Derek McBride and Petey Williams.
