White River grad places seventh

White River High graduate Justin Purves finished seventh, in the 25-man bracket, at the National Junior College Athletic Association Wrestling Championships in Rochester, Minn., Friday and Saturday.

Purves, who wrestles for Highline Community College in Des Moines, Wash., bested Nate Williams of Ellsworth Community College, Iowa Falls, Iowa, 18-5 for seventh in the 125-pound weight division.

Elder named to all-state squad

Enumclaw High senior Connor Elder has been selected to participate in the East-West All-State football game June 27 at Everett Memorial Stadium. The time of the game is yet to be announced.

Schwartz finishes career at home

Senior Brianna Schwartz won the uneven bars, but Seattle Pacific University fell short of Eastern Michigan in a nonconference gymnastics dual meet at Brougham Pavilion in Seattle.

The Eagles outscored SPU 190.475-188.700.

Schwartz, a Sumner High graduate from Bonney Lake who has been the Falcons’ top all-arounder this season, competed just once in the Feb. 24 meet. She made the most of her lone event, finishing as the top bars competitor with a score of 9.75.

Friday marked the final home appearance for Schwartz, who made the most of the home meet, capturing top honors on the uneven bars with a 9.725. She tallied 9.625 points in the vault to finish fifth in her only other event as the Falcons again met, and fell, to Eastern Michigan despite posting a season-high team score.

The Falcon gymnasts will be on the road for the remainder of the season, beginning Friday in a tri-meet at Oregon State with Washington. The Seattle Pacific women compete at Sacramento State March 13 before traveling to Colorado Springs, Colo., March 20 for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championships.

EHS leads all-sport league standings

Enumclaw High will be recognized by the South Puget Sound League 3A athletic directors for earning the top spot in the SPSL all-sport standings for the winter season just completed.

Wolverines team with high school program

The Enumclaw Wolverines junior football program is working in conjunction with Enumclaw High School football coach Don Bartel. Registration is coming in March. For more information, visit the Web site www.wolverinejuniorfootball.com.
