The Enumclaw High girls won their opening-round game in the Class 3A state basketball tournament Wednesday morning, defeating Franklin High 46-41 in overtime.

The victory puts the Hornets in Thursday's quarterfinals against Meadowdale. Game time is 3:30 p.m. All tournament games are in the Tacoma Dome.

Heather Hitch and Mara Koplitz led the EHS offense with 19 and 17 points, respectively. Hitch scored all eight of Enumclaw's third-quarter points and, in overtime, she had eight and Koplitz added the final five.

In a whistle-happy game that was largely decided at the free-throw line, the Hornets connected of 13 of 17 from the stripe down the stretch.
