Steinmetz earns win in Hornets’ 15-3 drubbing of Highline High
The White River High girls traveled to Highline High in Burien March 18 and made the most of the long road trip, forcing the Lady Pirates walk the plank with a 15-3 triumph.
“Although as one might expect, playing in our first game of the season, we made a few mental mistakes, we were still pretty much in control the whole way,” said skipper Joe Sprouse, who cited great hitting and sound pitching as the biggest reasons for the victory.
A newcomer on the mound for White River, sophomore Sara Steinmetz, earned the win, pitching three strong innings, relinquishing no runs and striking out three Pirates in her varsity debut.
Meanwhile, the bats were ablaze for the Hornet girls as Kaylee Rohler went 3-for-4, Kandie Kujawa smacked a double that drove in a pair of runs and Brianna McMillen also did some damage, going 2-for-4 while scoring a tandem of runs and delivering two RBI.
White River was scheduled to host Clover Park Tuesday, travel to Auburn Mountainview at 4 p.m. today, Wednesday, and host Lakes at 4 p.m. Friday.
