White River score first win

The White River High’s girls tennis team picked up its first win of the season with a 3-2 victory over Timberline Thursday.

Just before spring break, the Hornets dropped a 5-0 contest with Capital March 27. Both games were nonleague. The Hornets return to action Tuesday at home in a South Puget Sound League 3A contest against Franklin Pierce. Match time is 3:30 p.m.

In the Hornets’ Thursday win, Rachel Hoflack won the opening set against Kayleen Tabil 6-4 and picked up the match when Tabil forfeited the second set. At No. 2 singles, WRHS’s Morgan Wilson topped Megan Richardson 6-3, 6-2.

The No. 1 doubles team of Haley Havelock and Courtney Hall earned the Hornets’ final win of the day, topping Candice Orm and Rachel Warngn, 7-5, 6-3.

Timberline got the best of Lauren Aronson and Sarah Lindner at No. 2 doubles and Iwalani Kauhi and K.C. Rainard at No. 3.

Against Capital, Hoflack lost her No. 1 singles match in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. In the Hornets’ No. 2 singles spot, Wilson dropped straight sets 6-1, 6-1.

All three doubles teams also suffered defeat. Havelock and Hall fell 6-4, 6-2. Aronson and Lindner and Kauhi and Christine Parker both lost 6-0, 6-1.
