Panthers take tumble

The Bonney Lake Panthers dropped a pair of South Puget Sound League 3A baseball games .

Sumner needed just five innings to post an 11-1 win Friday at Bonney Lake. The Spartans scored four runs in the first and third innings in the win. They added one run in the fourth and two in the fifth. The game was called due to the 10-run rule.

The Panthers were held to a pair of hits by pitcher Mike Dent and two by Derek Fugene.

White River scored all its runs off just four hits in an 8-4 league win over Bonney Lake April 7 in Buckley.

The Hornets opened up a 4-0 lead with three runs in the first inning and another in the second.

Bonney Lake got on the board in the top of the third. Hornet pitcher Jeremy Hoffman walked Kyle Yanusevich, gave up a single to Chad Marquez and walked another batter to load the bases.

White River coach Mike Williams replaced Hoffman with Dalton Reynolds with no outs.

After Ryan Journey flied out, Dylan Brown drilled a sacrifice fly ball to right, scoring a run.

Bonney Lake cut the lead to one, 4-3, in the fourth. Brad Dawes reached bases on a single and later scored on a Yanusevich single. Yanusevich then scored off Marquez’s right-field triple.

But the Hornets answered with three more runs in the bottom of the inning.

Panther pitcher Dylan Brown hit the first two Hornet batters he faced. With no outs and two runners on base, Payden Lamb singled down the third-base line to increase the White River lead to 5-3.

After a sacrifice bunt, Chad Sayler stole home and Lamb scored off a sacrifice fly for a 7-3 margin.

Reynolds picked up the win for White River, while Brown took the loss for the Panthers. Brown gave up four hits, struck out two and walked three.

Chase Myers led the Hornets with two hits, while Dawes and Marquez had two hits for Bonney Lake. Marquez finished with a pair of RBIs.

The Panthers travel to Peninsula today, Wednesday, and host Clover Park Friday. They travel to Auburn Mountainview Tuesday.
