Hornet soccer remains perfect

The White River Hornets kept their season record perfect last week, picking up shutout victories over Clover Park and Lakes.

Paired against the South Puget Sound League 3A’s cellar dwellers, the Hornets rang up a 3-0 win April 14 at Clover Park and demolished Lakes 8-0 Friday at home. The two-win week improved White River’s record to 3-0 in SPSL 3A play and 9-0 overall.

Assistant coach Travis Tremblay isn’t about to concede that the Hornets are at the top of their game, however. “We’ve still got a couple of kinks to work out,” he said.

The Lakes Lancers might believe otherwise.

Evan Robertson, Thomas Roberts and Joshua Kirk struck for first-half goals Friday as the Hornets jumped all over their outmatched opponent. Despite starters sitting on the bench and players shifting positions, White River added five more goals. Adding to the statistics sheet were Jesse Ritz with two goals and Ricky Mau, Jeremy Young and Paul Root with one each.

Against Clover Park, Tremblay said, the 3-0 final score didn’t adequately show the Hornets’ dominance.

“We controlled the whole game,” he said, noting that a few breaks went the Warriors’ way and kept the score from getting out of hand.

Nathan Jung scored the only goal of the first half and Clover Park was still in the game until the final 10 minutes. Jung added an insurance goal at the 70-minute mark, then Jake Dedge put the game on ice with a goal at 78 minutes.

A showdown for SPSL 3A dominance occurred Tuesday when White River hosted the 2-0 Peninsula Seahawks; results were not available here, but will be posted at www.courierherald.com. Thursday has the Hornets hosting Yelm in nonleague action.
