Tough two-game stretch on tap
The Bonney Lake panthers picked up a 3-2 South Puget Sound League 3A soccer victory Friday, defeating Clover Park High on the Warriors’ home turf.
“We played better than the score indicated,” coach Luke Helling-Christy said, noting that few things went the Warriors’ way and kept the score close.
The Panthers received goals from Justin Worden, Kyle Ottwell and Jordan Billy to get the win.
Things had not gone as well April 14, when the Panthers traveled to Franklin Pierce and came up on the short end of a 1-0 decision, allowing a goal in the 34th minute.
With the SPSL 3A season heating up, Helling-Christy has settled on a lineup that will carry the team through the rest of the season. “I think we’re pretty much done tinkering,” he said, noting that he had spent the early part of the season considering various lineup combinations.
The Panthers are looking at their toughest two-game stretch of the season, scheduled to host Peninsula High Friday and travel to White River Tuesday. Through games of last weekend, White River was 3-0 in league and a perfect 9-0 on the season while Peninsula had won its first two league games of the campaign.
