Enumclaw High coach Skip Ashley likes how his Hornet soccer team is playing these days.
The EHS crew picked up its first South Puget Sound League 3A victory of the season April 14, defeating Auburn Mountainview 2-1 at home, and followed that with a nonleague, 1-0 victory Friday over Sumner, also at home.
“We’re playing pretty well right now,” Ashley said. “Our defense has really become a solid group and our offense is starting to come together.”
The win over Auburn Mountainview was highlighted by goals from Jordan Savage and Nathan Bundy. Against Sumner, Bundy had the game’s only goal, scoring in the 64th minute.
The Hornets continue SPSL 3A play Thursday at Franklin Pierce and Tuesday at home against Clover Park. Ashley is expecting a battle against the defensive-minded Franklin Pierce crew; last year, the Hornets and Cardinals battled to a pair of scoreless draws.
