Spartans drop nonleague pair

The Sumner Spartans split a pair of tennis matches in nonleague play against a pair of Western Cascade Conference foes last week.

Thursday, Sumner fell to Capital 3-2 at home.

Sumner lost both single matches as Brittany Fulton lost to Natalie Nicholson 6-2, 6-4, and Julia Charuhas dropped a tough match to Stephanie Hughes, 7-5, 6-2.

Emily Taylor and Reanne Charuhas posted the Spartans’ only win in doubles. They beat Nicole Lawton and Brooke Peterson 6-2, 6-2.

Erinn Carlson and Lyndsey Plute beat Sumner’s Holly White-Elena Shaw duo 6-1, 6-2, while Lindsey Cook and Shauna Wooley downed Rachel Hilburn and Trish Mayer, 7-6, 6-2.

The Spartans dominated the court with a 4-1 nonleague win over Timberline April 13 in Lacey.

Julia Charuhas won her singles match, 6-2, 6-1, but Sumner dropped the No. 2 doubles match 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles action, Emily Taylor and Reanne Charuhas won with identical 6-1 scores. Carlson and Plute easily won their match, 6-0, 6-2, and the team of Hilburn and Mayer shutout the opponents, 6-0, 6-0.

The Spartans play at Franklin Pierce Thursday and host Clover Par Monday in South Puget Sound League 3A play.
