The White River High girls tennis team continues to improve as the South Puget Sound League 3A season draws to a close.

The Hornets were scheduled to host Yelm in a nonleague contest Monday, results came too late to be published here, and then host Bonney Lake at 3:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, and travel to Auburn Mountainview Friday.

The Hornets suffered a 5-0 loss to Franklin Pierce April 20.

The Hornets’ doubles team of Courtney Hall and Haley Havlock dropped the first set to Cathy Wilmot and Grace Pak 6-4, but came back strong to win the second set, 6-3, and kept it tight in the third before losing a 7-4 tiebreaker and the set 7-6.

Michele Chapman and Holly Hodgson also went three sets with Marissa Bautista and Amy Kim. The Hornet duo won the opening set 6-2, before dropping two straight 6-4, 6-2.

In No. 1 singles, Rachael Hoflack kept play close with Elise Utterback, who eventually won 6-4, 6-4.

K.C. Rainard lost in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0.

Lauren Arenson and Sarah Lindner, in the Hornets’ No. 3 doubles slot, also lost 6-2, 6-0.

The Hornets lost a narrow 3-2 margin April 21 with Lakes.
