The White River fastpitch team played only one game last week, travelling to Bonney Lake Thursday and losing 9-1 after a late-inning collapse to make its South Puget Sound League record 2-10.

White River stuck to league-leading and unbeaten Bonney Lake like glue until the bottom of the fifth frame when Panther senior standout Caitlin Colvin blasted a two run homer to put her squad up 2-0.

White River cut that advantage in half when it manufactured a run in the top of the sixth inning, but then the wheels fell off for the Hornets as they relinquished six runs to a suddenly methodical BLHS group in the bottom of that inning.

While White River had trouble scoring against the SPSL 3A’s finest windmiller, Colvin, defensively it had a superb outing until the fateful sixth stanza. White River sophomore backstop Brooke Paulson threw out three Panthers attempting to steal on the day, from her catcher’s position.

White River hosted Sumner Tuesday in a crucial league encounter; results of that important contest came too late to include here but will be posted at

It was a critical affair for White River, in that – as of press time – the Hornets were not mathematically out the running for the fifth seed going into to the subdistrict tournament and with a win over the Spartans could dramatically increase their chances of making it to the second season. The Hornets wind down their regular season at 7 Thursday night when they cross the county line to lock horns with 11-2 Enumclaw at the Boise Creek Sixplex.
