White River golf: Zimmer leads Hornets in march to tourney

White River High’s Kristine Brons, Tricia Bruckbauer and Casey Zimmer get one final chance to make the state 3A golf tournament Monday at Eagles Pride Golf Course (formerly Fort Lewis).

They will need to finish near the top to advance to state. The state tournament is scheduled for May 27 and 28 in Richland, Wash.

Lady Hornets’ coach Jer Argo said the girls were not a definite for the tournament. As of Thursday, Brons is a standout on the Hornets’ track team, which is currently in the prime of its season, and Bruckbauer has been battlng an illness.

Brons and Bruckbauer tied for 16th during play in October at South Puget Sound League/Western Cascade Conference golf tournament at Tacoma’s Chambers Bay Golf Course with two other girls. The four participated in a playoff to determine who would be going to the spring state qualifying tournament.

Ashley Stevens, a senior, is the second alternate. She could find her way into the tournament if her teammates cannot play.

Zimmer is White River’s lone representative on the boys’ side. He earned his shot at the West Central District tournament with a 19th-place finish in October at Tacoma’s Chambers Bay.

Zimmer also was an all-league honorable mention selection.
