Sumner’s Dalibor Nakladal will go to the state boys singles’ tennis championship as the area’s No. 5 seed after losing to Alex Wallace of Union, 7-5, 6-1, Saturday at the West Central District Class 3A tournament at Sprinker Recreation Center in Parkland, Wash.

The state tournament begins Friday at the Vancouver Tennis and Raquetball Center with finals Saturday.

Nakladal, a top-ranked exchange student from Serbia, was upset by North Thurston’s David Schuster.

Schuster won the first set 7-6, pulling out the tiebreaker 10-8. He then won the second set, 6-1.

In first round action Thursday, Nakladal opened up with a 6-0, 6-2, victory over Camas’ Andy Tweet. He then scored a 6-0, 6-2 win over Zach Fohn of North Kitsap to advance to the semifinals.
