Sumner High’s Taylor Bethards will serve as the second alternate into the Class 3A girls state golf tournament, while her Spartan teammate from the boys’ side Chris Lumsden will serve as the fourth alternate into the state tournament.

Both seniors earned their spots on the waiting list after play May 18 in the West Central/Southwest District tournament at Eagles Pride Golf Course, formerly Fort Lewis.

Both the girls and boys state golf tournaments begin today, Wednesday, in Richland, Wash. The girls are scheduled to play on the desert dunes of Horns Rapid Golf Course, while the boys will hit the links of the Meadow Spring Country Club.
