September 7, 2009 · 11:40 AM
Tia Johnson led the White River High girls golf team in its preseason jamboree appearance at Brookdale Golf Course.
Johnson collected 10 of the Hornets' 21 team points with her 57-stroke performance. Hornet teammate Rebecca Norris was one stroke behind at 58 for seven points.
Newcomers Jordynn Smith and Caitlyn Miller scored their first varsity points.
"We are focusing on improvement and the girls are all working hard to get better," coach Jer Argo said.
The Hornets will use the experience they gained at the jamboree to move into the South Puget Sound League 3A regular season with a 3:15 p.m. contest with Franklin Pierce at home on Tapps Island. The team heads to Peninsula Tuesday.
