EHS GIRLS SOCCER: Hornets’ shutout starts season
September 14, 2009 · 4:28 PM
Enumclaw High started the prep soccer season on a bright note Thursday afternoon, defeating Yelm 2-0 in nonleague play.
The victory over the Tornadoes of the Western Cascade Conference was highlighted by the shutout goalkeeping of Caitlin Plese. Offensively, the teams battled to a scoreless draw at halftime, with Enumclaw getting all the offense it would need in the 50th minute when Claire Meeks scored. The icing on the cake came in the 78th minute when Emily Meeks added the team’s second goal.
The Hornets advanced to the state tournament for the first time in school history last season and, under second-year coach Shawn Tobius, are looking to keep the good times rolling.
Enumclaw went looking for additional success Tuesday, traveling to Purdy to take on the Peninsula Seahawks; results came too late to be included here, but will be posted Wednesday morning at www.courierherald.com.
