WHITE RIVER GIRLS GOLF: Hornets earn first win

By Brenda Sexton

The Courier-Herald

The weather at Tapps Island Golf Course was blustery and fall-like, but the sun was shining on the White River High girls golf team as it picked up its first win of the season, a 24-18 victory over Lakes Sept. 29.

Lady Hornet Tia Johnson earned medalist honors, shooting a 56 for seven points, and teammate Rebecca Norris, one stroke behind, aided the Hornets’ team score with 10 points. Christina Parker finished with four points for the Hornets, while freshman Drew McCarty had two.

Johnson also led the Hornets during a 60-21 loss to Sumner Thursday. She finished at 53 for 10 points. Caitlyn Miller shot 64 for seven points. Norris also carded a 64 for four points.

The Hornets close out the season with back-to-back home matches. Clover Park was scheduled to come to town Tuesday; results came too late, but are available at Thursday the Hornets host Auburn Mountainview. Tee time is 1:30 p.m.

Monday, junior varsity players get a chance to qualify for the Oct. 15 South Puget Sound League Medalist Tournament at Fort Lewis.
