EHS FOOTBALL: Hornets dump Clover Park

For the second week in a row, the Enumclaw High football squad traveled to Harry E. Lang Stadium in Lakewood Friday. Unlike the first trip, which resulted in a loss to Lakes, Friday’s trip home was enjoyable, as the Hornets crushed Clover Park 48-20.

The victory bolstered Enumclaw’s South Puget Sound League 3A record to 3-1 and their overall mark to 4-1.

The Hornets went over, under, around and through a porous Clover Park defense, putting up two touchdowns in each of the four quarters and rolling up nearly 550 yards of total offense.

The Hornets rode the arm of senior quarterback Riley Carel, who went 15-for-20 for 250 yards and tossed five touchdown strikes, four of those to senior receiver Coleman Clyde, who had five receptions for 110 yards.

When Enumclaw wasn’t scoring at will through the air, the Hornets were attacking the Warriors on the ground.

Junior ball carrier Andy Holdener, who is also the EHS kicker, shouldered the lion’s share of the running duties, toting the pigskin 11 times for 116 yards and also finding pay dirt twice.

The Hornets head into a Friday night Homecoming tilt at Pete’s Pool Field against 2-3 Auburn Mountainview.

EHS is currently in a three-way tie for second place with Bonney Lake and Peninsula and all trail 5-0 Lakes.
