The same White River High volleyball squad that lost five nonleague cliffhangers to start the season is now 2-0 in South Puget Sound League 3A play, sharing the top spot with Bonney Lake and Auburn Mountainview.

The schedule makers were kind to White River, as the Hornets initiated league play against two lesser foes. White River responded by sweeping Franklin Pierce Sept. 28 and blanking Clover Park at home Sept. 30.

At Franklin Pierce, the Hornets’ Kelsi Tyler, Carly McCutchen and Dannie Stroud went on a killing spree, combining for 31 kills.

White River setter Jailyn VanSickle found her calling as in the two league conquests she recorded 45 assists.

The Hornets attempted to keep their league winning streak alive when they traveled to Lakes Tuesday; results came too late to include here but will be posted at www.courierherald.com. Thursday, White River hosts Peninsula.
