Rebecca Norris and Tia Johnson recorded their best scores of the season and the White River High girls golf team set a season-high point total in a 43-23 win over Clover Park Oct. 6, then lost a 29-27 nail-biter with Auburn Mountainview in the season finale Thursday.

With an impressive two-putt from 75 feet on the ninth green to save par, Norris led the Hornets against Clover Park. It was her first sub-50 round of the year, shooting a 49 with 13 points.

Johnson also scored a season-best 12 points, shooting 55. Caitlyn Miller added 10 points that included a birdie chip in from the rough on the par-3 seventh hole. Drew McCarty had four points and Jordynn Smith earned three. Erika Tinnon scored her first varsity point as well.

The match came down to the final foursome against the Lions at Tapps Island Golf Course.

Norris led the Hornets with 51 for 12 points. Johnson, whose round was highlighted by a 50-foot birdie chip-in, shot 55 for 10 points. Christina Parker contributed three points.

The Hornets head into the postseason with the South Puget Sound 3A Medalist Tournament Thursday at Eagles Pride Golf Course at Fort Lewis. The top golfers there advance to the state qualifying tournament Tuesday, also at Fort Lewis.
