Mixed results were in store for the White River High cross country runners when they trekked to McCormick Forest Park Oct. 7 to challenge Peninsula and Franklin Pierce high schools.

Both the Hornets boys and girls defeated Franklin Pierce, but both lost to the tough Seahawks. The boys defeated the Cardinals 19-42 but fell to Peninsula 21-38. The WRHS girls lost to Peninsula 22-39 and defeated Franklin Pierce 18-45.

Leading the way for the Hornet boys was Marcus Dickson, who placed fourth overall with a time of 18 minutes, 2 seconds. Other Hornets figuring in the day’s scoring were Kody Gould, fifth place, 18:05; Sterling Frye, seventh, 18:15; and Shane Coyle, 12th, 19:37.

White River’s Lauryn Wate finished second in the girls race, clocking a time of 21:57. Others in the Hornet scoring column were Kelly Coyle, fourth place, 22:52; Kelsey Smith, 10th, Emmabeth Hickle, 11th, 25:21; and Samantha Lovelace, 13th, 25:54.

The Hornets will polish off the regular season today, Wednesday, when they travel to Auburn for a three-way meet against Enumclaw High and the host Auburn Mountainview Lions.
