For a while it looked like Enumclaw NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Kasey Kahne would pick up his fourth win of the season, but when the checkered flag waved Saturday night over Lowe’s Motorspeedway, Kahne finished third.

“We had a great Budweiser Dodge throughout the race,” Kahne said. “The tires we took on the last stop shook and didn’t turn. I guess that was our bad set for the night. It’s disappointing. We had the car to beat and the guy who beats everybody beat us tonight. Our car was as good as anything here. We just didn’t get it done at the end.

Points leader Jimmie Johnson won the race. Kahne, one of 12 contenders for the Sprint Cup title, moved up from 11th to ninth in the race for the championship.

With five races remaining, Kahne and the Budweiser No. 9 Dodge head to Martinsville Speedway Sunday. Television coverage begins at 10 a.m. on ABC.

Johnson, who took over the points lead from Mark Martin, will be racing for his fourth straight title.
