WRHS GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: White River fights to be in the thick

Heading into this final week of league play, the White River High volleyball squad had lost just one game in South Puget Sound League 3A action. That setback was to Auburn Mountainview, the only team it trailed in the league standings.

White River’s neighbor Bonney Lake did its part for the cause, beating Auburn Mountainview 3-1 Oct. 21. That clutch conquest complicated things but, in the end, White River will place second, having lost to the Lions earlier in the season. If White River and Bonney Lake end in a second-place tie, the nod goes to the Hornets.

White River, after losing to Auburn Mountainview Oct. 19, beat Sumner Oct 21 25-22, 19-25, 25-21 and 25-14 behind a 28 kill night from Kelsi Tyler.

Monday, bragging rights were on the line as White River tangled with Enumclaw; results came too late to include here but will be posted at www.courierherald.com.

In the playoffs, the SPSL 3A No. 2 team will square off against Kennedy, the Seamount League’s No. 1 in the first round of the subdistrict tournament, at 10 a.m. Saturday at Auburn Mountainview.
