BRIEF: Wolfpack Sweet Peas earn trophy
One of the four Valley Wolfpack teams carried home a Cascade Junior Football League championship trophy Saturday.
The Wolfpack Sweet Peas picked up a sweet 7-6 victory over Puyallup. The Roughriders led 6-0 at halftime, but the Sweet Peas scored in the fourth quarter with a Tre Weed touchdown. The extra point by Cody Miller put the Wolfpack ahead and the defense played tough all day. The Sweet Peas will play in the cross-town super bowl at Tahoma High in Maple Valley Sunday.
The Wolfpack Midgets started out with an onside kick, recovered the ball, drove down the field and scored. The team also picked up two extra points by a kick from Robert Combs, but it wasn’t enough. Travis Mayer, Tyler Brennon, Robert Combs and Keenen Jackson move up to the high school next fall.
The Wolfpack 89ers fell 12-0 in its championship game to Puyallup. The game was scoreless until the fourth quarter when Puyallup finally got on the board.
The defending champion Wolfpack Bantams came up one point short, 13-12, to Puyallup in double overtime.
Puyallup scored first and carried that 6-0 lead into the half. The Wolfpack had one touchdown called back, but answered with another late in the fourth quarter. Both teams went scoreless in the first round of overtime. Puyallup attempted a touchdown pass that was intercepted by Kyler Ooley, but the turnover was negated by an official’s flag. Puyallup scored first in the second round and scored an extra point. The Wolfpack scored a touchdown as well but came up short on the extra point.
