Enumclaw graduate Ubbenga closes collegiate baseball career with honor

Enumclaw High School graduate Jon Ubbenga recently received the Male Athlete of the Year Award from William Jewell College, where he completed a standout baseball career.

Ubbenga is the 72nd recipient of the Cecil R. Martin Award, which was instituted in 1935 by the college in Liberty, Mo. He received the honor at the Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner and Reception, hosted during the college’s Homecoming activities.

A four-year starter at shortstop for the Cardinals, Ubbenga finished his senior season with a .401 batting average. Along the way, he picked up various conference honors, a Champion of Character Award, multiple scholar-athlete awards and earned the prestigious Rawlings Gold Glove Award.

Ubbenga graduated with a major in sports and recreaton and a minor in entrepreneurial business leadership. He is now attending graduate school at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., where he is an assistant coach with the NCAA Division I Missouri State Bears.
