SLIDESHOW: WRHS WRESTLING: White River coasts past Clover Park
Paced by eight pins the White River High wrestling team cruised to a 76-6 South Puget Sound League 3A victory Dec. 16.
The Hornets, 2-1 in SPSL 3A action, were scheduled to travel to Yelm Saturday for a dual tournament, but those results were not available at press time due to early holiday deadlines. To see how the Hornets did, visit the Web site at www.courierherald.com.
Against Clover Park it took about a half hour for the Hornets to earn their victory, getting pins from Dave Meagher, Richard Geddes, Nathan Lindner, Brandon Short, Anthony Moore, Connor Leckman, Jacob Short and Chase Myers.
“The kids were aggressive and doing the stuff we’ve been working on in the practice room, and that’s what I like to see,” coach Joe Klein said.
Meagher started the match with a 1-minute, 1-second fall at heavyweight. Geddes followed it up at 103 pounds with a 17-second stick. Tyler Worthen earned the Hornets’ first of four forfeits of the night at 112 pounds.
Lindner and Brandon Short earned back-to-back pins at 119 and 125 pounds respectively. Lindner’s came in the opening 46 seconds of his match, while Short pinned his Warrior opponent in 2:51.
Clover Park then handed the Hornets three straight forfeits.
Moore came in at 145 pounds with a 29-second pin.
At 152 pounds, White River’s Brennon Gulin battled Justin Martinez until the Warrior took him to the mat in 3:28.
Leckman answered for the Hornets with a 15-second pin at 160.
White River’s Jeff Kissner, at 171 pounds, won a 15-5 major decision.
Jacob Short, 189 pounds, and Myers, 215, closed out the night with pins in 1:05 and 1:07.
