EHS GIRLS WRESTLING: Bailey, Renfrow score crowns for EHS

A bevy of place winners, including champions Chantelle Bailey and Kassandra Renfrow at the Mount Rainier Holiday Tournament Dec. 29 in Des Moines, Wash., boosted the Enumclaw High girls wrestling team’s spirits during the break.

The tournament was a warm up for 6 tonight, Wednesday, when the Hornets host White River in South Puget Sound League 3A action. They turn around and travel to Auburn Mountainview Thursday for another league contest and then head to Kelso for a tournament Friday and Saturday.

Renfrow, who was injured last season, earned her first tournament championship at Mount Rainier. At 145 pounds, she won her first match with a pin and her second with a 17-7 decision before topping Kay Mansaray of Highline 10-4 for the title.

Bailey waltzed through the 171 pound bracket with a bye, a 4:51 pin and then an 11-3 victory over teammate Jade Paterson for the crown. Paterson, a freshman, cruised through her side of the bracket, earning a 51-second pin in the opener and a 1:58 pin over 2009 state place finisher Alysha Gash of Burlington-Edison in the second match before facing Bailey.

Rose Johnson also earned a second-place finish for EHS. She eased through the 285-pound bracket before slamming into Bethel’s Kendra Cremeans in the finals, where Cremeans posted a 47-second fall.

Hornet Carson Seitz finished third. She opened with a bye and was up 8-4 in the semifinal match when she injured an elbow.

At 152 pounds, Logann Erskine lost her opener then rallied for three straight wins, including a 2:39 pin in the finals over Kayla Boynton of Shoreline to earn her third-place finish.

Maranda Long earned a fourth-place finish at 103 pounds. After winning her opening contest 12-6, she lost her second match, but rallied for a 48-second pin in her third before dropping a 14-3 match to Allyssa Agular for third and fourth place.

Breanna Flaquinti finished fifth at 285.
