Once again flames from the South Puget Sound League 3A’s better teams leapt up to singe the fragile wings of the inexperienced Enumclaw High girls basketball squad.

Enumclaw made the long trip Jan. 26 to Peninsula High to face a decent Seahawk squad and fell behind 16-4 after the first eight minutes of play. By halftime the Hornets trailed 36-17 and eventually absorbed a dismal 64-36 road loss.

Sunnier skies appeared to be on the horizon for the 2-9 Hornets as they were slated to host Clover Park Friday in the friendly confines Chuck Smith Gymnasium.

Enumclaw apparently took the Warriors for granted, handing Clover Park its initial victory of the season, 46-37.

Enumclaw’s Hayley Hall and Hailey Kohler combined for 18 points to account for nearly half of the Hornets’ points. Kohler, a senior guard and Enumclaw’s top scorer, is among the top dozen scorers in the SPSL 3A.

The Hornets traveled to Auburn Mountainview Tuesday night and will host Lakes High Friday.
