For a while it looked like Kasey Kahne would pick up his first win of the NASCAR Sprint Cup season.

The Enumclaw driver led the most laps Sunday at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but when the checkered flag waved, Kahne was fourth. It was his first Top 5 finish of the season.

“We had a good run out there today,” Kahne said. “We had a really fast car and it was great most of the day. The track changed quite a bit the last 50 laps and we just didn’t keep up quite like we needed to to win the race.

“I thought we had a third- or fourth-place car at that time and that is where we finished, so it all worked out fine.”

Kurt Busch won the race.

It was Kahne’s second straight Top 10 finish of the season and pushed him up six spots in Sprint Cup driver standings to 17th. Kevin Harvick leads the series.

Sprint Cup racing takes a break and resumes March 21 from the short track at Bristol, Tenn.
