STATE BASKETBALL: Enumclaw boys to play Saturday for state championship
March 12, 2010 · 10:42 PM
The Enumclaw High boys defeated Shadle Park 46-34 Friday night, earning a place in Saturday's championship battle.
To be played at 7 p.m. in the Tacoma Dome, the Class 3A finale will feature the undefeated Hornets against Union High, a third-year school from Camas.
Enumclaw asserted itself from the start Friday night, holding the Highlanders scoreless the entire first quarter. The Hornets dashed to a 13-0 lead, then pushed the advantage to 24-11 by halftime. Shadle Park, from the north side of Spokane, got untracked during the third period and sliced Enumclaw's advantage to 33-26. No. 1-ranked Enumclaw put an end to the rally, though, and polished off the Highlanders to earn their shot at the title.
The Hornets were led by seniors Riley Carel, who scored 16 points, and Taylor Myers, who added 15.
Union High earned its berth in the finals with a 63-62 victory over the Lakes Lancers. Union finished seventh in last year's 3A tournament.
