EHS BASEBALL: Enumclaw jumps all over Panthers for big victory

Enumclaw High’s baseball squad raised a few eyebrows when it traveled to Bonney Lake Thursday and thrashed the Panther nine 17-3.

Enumclaw put on a clinic against its first South Puget Sound League 3A foe, amassing 16 hits during the contest, which was abbreviated by virtue of the 10-run rule.

Going the distance on the mound for the Hornets was reliable senior righty Casey Clare.

At the plate, Enumclaw’s Cody Hughes had four hits and Kailen Bickler and Kyle Baumgartner added three each. Shortstop Michael Luccarelli crushed a towering home run over the right field fence to plate three of the Hornets’ six runs in the second inning.

The pickings weren’t nearly as easy for EHS Friday night, as Enumclaw fell 9-2 to unbeaten Sumner High.

A Sumner solo homer erased a scoreless tie in the top of the third and the Spartans manufactured another run in the top of the fourth to go ahead 2-0. After Enumclaw knotted the score in the bottom of the fifth, Sumner scored five runs in the sixth.
