The White River High fastpitch squad had a full dance card as it played a half-dozen contests in eight days.

March 20, White River beat Yelm 10-6, then made it two consecutive victories March 22 as it won a nail-biter at home, thrilling the Hornet faithful with an eight-inning, 8-7 victory that was keyed by the bat and wheels of Aubrey Custer, who went 3-for-4 at the plate for three RBI, including the game winner, in addition to stealing two bases.

White River lost March 23 and 24, first falling 10-0 to Auburn Mountainview then losing to Lakes 10-7.

Thursday, White River claimed a confidence builder, as it back-handed South Puget Sound League 3A cellar dweller Clover Park, 17-2.

Friday an exhausted Hornet bunch hosted Franklin Pierce and managed a few hits against one of the better pitchers in the league.

“This loss kind of bore out the importance of putting together an entire game with offense and defense,” coach Joe Sprouse said of the 6-2 setback that left White River with a 2-3 league mark.
