White River fastpitch wins big over Sumner

The White River High fastpitch team looked like a world beater in its only game last week, beating the struggling Sumner High softball squad 10-0 in five innings.

Sumner may have gotten its hopes up that the contest would go its full seven innings, as after four frames the Hornets were ahead 4-0.

The Spartans’ aspirations were soon dashed, when thanks to the hitting of Hornet outfielders Aubrey Custer and Brianna McMillen, three Sumner errors as well as six Spartan free passes, White River notched an eight spot in the bottom of the fifth frame.

The Hornets, who entered this busy week of fastpitch action sporting a 2-4 South Puget Sound League 3A record, host Clover Park today, Wednesday, and visit Auburn Mountainview Friday.

The Hornets still have league encounters to make up with Clover Park and Enumclaw; as of press time the dates of those contests had not been announced.
