Gymnastics: Enumclaw-based Hernandez impresses at meet
April 20, 2010 · Updated 4:21 PM
Peak Experience’s Victoria Hernandez, a Level 8 qualifier to the Region 2 meet, which included athletes from Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska, Idaho and Hawaii, made quite an impression during the March 9-11 West Coast Regionals. Coaches said Hernandez, who previously had contented herself with a controlled mid-8.0s scores on balance beam, was aggressive and tough throughout the weekend, nailing a solid back handspring then immediately and successfully launching into another, receiving full value for the sequence and catapulting her to a top-20 all-around finish.
Despite having to scratch floor and vault due to a tweaked knee during the optional warmup, Hernandez finished in the top 30 among the 60-plus gymnasts competing.
Peak gymnastics will host team tryouts for girls and boys interested in becoming team members, securing a spot or participating in either the 2010-11 USA Gymastics Junior Olympic or Recreational Optional competitive programs. Anyone interested can contact the gym or come dressed to participate May 1 at the center, based at the Enumclaw Expo Center.
