Enumclaw fastpitch suffers league setback
May 4, 2010 · Updated 10:49 AM
Enumclaw High’s fastpitch squad suffered a 9-8 setback Thursday to Lakes but it was how they lost that was gut-wrenching.
Trailing 8-2 going into the top of the seventh inning, the Hornets used hits by Courtney Cox, Kenicia McClellan and Devon Volk as well as five Lancer errors, to knot the score at eight.
Then Enumclaw, which out-hit the Lancers 11-7 and didn’t commit an error, could only look on as Lakes put a run across in the bottom of the seventh to claim the 9-8 triumph.
Friday, when the Hornets hosted Auburn Mountainview, EHS lost in similar fashion.
Ahead 3-0 heading into the top of the sixth, the Lions scored two runs and another run in the top of the seventh to tie the contest at three.
Enumclaw couldn’t rally in the bottom of the seventh and Auburn Mountainview scored in the top of the extra eighth inning to earn the 4-3 victory.
