White River baseball rallies for playoff win

On the eve of its subdistrict encounter against Highline at Auburn Mountainview Saturday, White River’s baseball squad was on the receiving end of a few nuggets of wisdom from 1984 WRHS graduate Louis Martinson.

He told the Hornets to have faith in their ability and play as though they had been Thunderstruck.

With this AC/DC number still ringing in their ears, the Buckley boys overcame a 6-4 Highline lead, rallying for 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth frame on the way to a 16-12 victory between the South Puget Sound and Seamount 3A leagues’ No. 2 seeds. The contest was highlighted by a tandem of home runs and 21 hits.

Payden Cawley-Lamb went 4 for 4 at the plate with a home run. Michael Anastasi had a double, a triple and four RBI.

In trimming the Pirates, WRHS became the No. 3 seed in the West Central District tournament and squared off against Capital Tuesday at Russell Road Park in Kent; results came too late to be included here.
