Baumgardener leads Spartans with 14 points

The Sumner High boys lost two hoop contests at home last week, falling 53-47 to Auburn Mountainview Friday and 48-41 to Clover Park Jan. 27.

Against Auburn Mountainview the Spartans took the early first quarter lead 14-9.

In the second period the Spartans had trouble getting the ball to drop and went into the locker room at the half down 23-19. Sumner outscored the Lions 12-10 in the third frame but in the fourth Auburn Mountainview took the game by knocking down 20 points to Sumner’s 16.

Lee Baumgardener led the numbers for Sumner with 14.

Against Clover Park, Sumner went into the halftime with a 23-20 lead.

In the second half the Spartans had trouble containing the athletic Clover Park team and was outscored 9-7 in the third and 19-11 in the fourth.

Mike Murphy led the scoring for Sumner with 16.

Sumner traveled to Lakes Tuesday – scores were not available by press deadline – and host Franklin Pierce at 7 p.m. Thursday.
