The Bonney Lake and Sumner wrestling teams were well represented at the Ed Wilfong Invitational at Puyallup High School Saturday.

Panther grapplers Nick Bendon (135 pounds) and Josh Peart (140) kept their undefeated records intact as both won the championship bouts.

Bendon won an exciting 6-4 decision over Rogers High’s Bobby Hawkins, tabulating a two point take on his foe with five seconds remaining in the battle.

Peart “wrestled well throughout the invitational,” according to coach Anthony Clarke, but was nearly eliminated in the semis with a bloody nose. In the championship match it was obvious that Peart had fully recovered as he annihilated Puyallup’s Donovan Arndt 17-1.

At 125 pounds, Sumner’s Tyler Wooding was the runnerup. He defeated Bonney Lake’s Patrick Bendon with a 2-0 decision en route to faltering in the championship round as he was pinned by his foe. Tyler Anderson was also a runnerup at 112 pounds, beaten by Rogers’ Bryce Evans.

Bonney Lakes senior Jared Dorsey finished second in the 215-pound weight class, dropping a 7-5 decision to Rogers’ Ricky Manz. Sumner’s Keiffer Comstock was the third-place finisher in this bracket.

Both Sumner and Bonney Lake will be in Pasco this weekend to participate in the annual Best of the West Tournament, which features 32-man brackets and dozens of teams from up and down the West Coast.
