Bonney Lake High fastpitch player Brooke Nelson was honored as an Athlete of the Week by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

Each week throughout the school year, the WIAA recognizes a dozen varsity athletes, a male and a female from each of the six classifications, who exhibited an outstanding performance for the previous week.

The WIAA announcement was made public April 27.

During the week she was nominated for, Nelson went 5-of-9 at the plate with a pair of home runs. She scored seven runs and drove in seven more. She also pitched in three games, picking up victories in each, including a no-hitter. Nelson totaled 17 innings and had 34 strikeouts and zero walks.

Each Athlete of the Week receives a congratulatory letter from WIAA Executive Director Mike Colbrese, a commemorative T-shirt and a certificate.
